Misja is one of Amsterdam’s most well-known and respected bartenders thanks to his high profile as the Cocktail Trainer and his colourful career mixing cocktails and training staff for the capital’s trendsetting bars.
Interestingly, Misja served his first beer at the age of 14, at his sister’s bar. A customer demanded that “a man” pour his drink. Being the only man in the bar at the time, Misja did his best and so began his career as a bartender.
When it came to tertiary studies, however, Misja turned his attention to sport and physical education, graduating from the University for Physical Education where he specialised in teambuilding. On completion of his studies, he taught sports to kids in a juvenile prison for more than two years and organised teambuilding events for companies, employing skills that later helped him to establish the Fabulous Cocktail Academy.
Misja received his first formal training in making cocktails in 1995, at high-end club restaurant and cocktail bar Vakzuid in the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium. After five years of bar management and cocktail shaking at Vakzuid, Misja joined Ricardo Sporkslede and Tal Nadari to form The Fabulous Shaker Boys. From there, Misja became well known and a respected name on the international cocktail scene and he started Global Bartending in 2009, a company that focuses on training and high-end events and in 2012 he started ISAAC Academy for Bar & Hospitality training.
Misja and his team of trainers have since trained over 15.000 bartenders and cocktail aficionado’s the ins and outs of making cocktails, and we’re thrilled that he now joins Luxury Hospitality Group (LHG) to share his knowledge and extensive experience with our clients.
