Erik Smit

At a very young age Erik knew that hospitality would be his industry. At hotel de l’Europe he finished his final internship and graduated in hotel management. He continued working here and climbed the ladder to leave as 2nd Maitre d’Hotel.

After a year as Food and Beverage manager at Bilderberg he got his first Maitre d’Hotel job at de Zwethheul, where after four years they were awarded their second Michelin star.  During this time Erik picks up specialism in cigars.

He was asked to return to Hotel de l’Europe where he managed all service staff in breakfast, three restaurants, room service and function rooms. Erik continued this job for five years and then became GM for a designer hotel on the Dutch coast. He also competed in the Festival de Habano in Cuba, displaying his cigar knowledge.

After a year he moves to Rotterdam and leads the service team at restaurant Parkheuvel, also decorated with two Michelin stars. He worked closely with the awarded sommeliers to deepen his wine knowledge and ability to pair wine and food.

After twenty years of working in the hospitality industry Erik started his own company to share his knowledge and work as a consultant and trainer. He does this for the Isaac Academy and joins the LHG team in 2018 to train teams in service, service management, wines and cigars.

Apart from being an expert trainer, Erik is also our Customer Engagement Manager.

Feedback on Erik as trainer:
“Erik was very passionate about what he taught and how he delivered the information. No question was irrelevant and the passion he had made you want to be as passionate and achieve the most from what I was being taught.” – 2nd Stew, 60m Feadship
